Naturaliz (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a mobile application for U.S. citizenship test preparation. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we collect and use your information.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information —Email address, phone number (optional), and name (if provided via Apple or Google sign-in).

Profile Information —Age range, residency range, U.S. state and zip code, and exam date to personalize your experience.

Learning Data —Session progress, speech transcriptions (on-device, text only — no audio stored), written answers, and question reports — if you tap the flag icon on a question, the question text, your answer, and the correct answer are sent to our support tool (Shake) along with your message.

Usage Data —Anonymized analytics events and performance metrics via PostHog.

2. How We Use Your Information

Provide and personalize your citizenship test preparation experience
Grade your spoken and written answers using AI
Track your learning progress and generate readiness assessments
Send daily lesson reminders (if you opt in)
Improve the app through anonymized analytics
Process in-app purchases

3. Third-Party Services

Supabase —Backend database, authentication, and file storage (U.S.)

OpenAI —Answer grading via GPT-4o-mini (text only, no audio or personal info)

PostHog —Privacy-focused analytics (no personal identifiers)

Shake —In-app bug reports and support tickets. When you submit a report, Shake receives your account ID, subscription tier, lesson progress, language/baseline preferences, and (for question reports) the question text, your answer, and the correct answer. Shake's privacy policy.

Apple —Authentication and payment processing (StoreKit)

Google —Authentication (Sign in with Google)

4. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account (Profile → Delete Account), all your data — including profile information, learning progress, and session records — is permanently removed. Anonymized analytics data may be retained after account deletion as it is not linked to your identity.

On-device data: Your learning progress is also stored locally on your device so the app works offline and so you can pick up where you left off. Signing out preserves this on-device data so you can resume after signing back in. To remove all data from both our servers and this device, use "Delete Account" in Profile.

5. Data Security

Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmission
Row-level security policies ensuring users only access their own data
Secure authentication via OTP codes (no passwords stored)

6. Your Rights

You may access your data in Profile settings, delete your account at any time, or opt out of notifications. California (CCPA) and EU/EEA (GDPR) residents: we do not sell personal information. Contact us to request data export or deletion.

7. Children's Privacy

Naturaliz is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is designed for adults preparing for the U.S. citizenship naturalization interview.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. The effective date at the top indicates when the policy was last updated.
